How to Step Into Your Creative Potential

|

How many times have you or someone you know said, “I am not creative”? It’s a common misconception about our creative potential that holds many of us back. I am also guilty of these thoughts. However, when I attended a talk from Adam Roa, he shifted my perspective and showed that everyone can create a poem in only one hour. With his 4-step process, he unlocks the creative potential within each person.

Adam Roa is a transformational artist and international speaker committed to showing the world what it looks like to choose love over fear in every moment. Combining years of experience as a personal development coach and over a decade of experience as a filmmaker and performer, he blends the two worlds in a way that encourages others to see life as art.

Getting Creative

Adam beautifully compares creating poetry to a flowing hose. To activate this creative flow, he follows four transformative steps:

For every task, set a timer for 3 minutes, then start writing and do not stop until the timer goes off. Feel free to use some inspiring music in the background.

Step 1: Untangle the Hose

The first step involves unraveling the knots in our creative hose. Confront and shed your fears, doubts, and insecurities, thereby unlocking the path to receiving creative ideas. Write down the biggest knots in your creative hose. What fears, emotions, thoughts, and doubts are holding you back?

Step 2: Connect to the Source

Now that you recognize the obstacles, it’s time to envision what life would be like if you overcame these knots in your hose. How would you feel? What would you do? What would you experience? Grab your pen and let your imagination flow freely.

Step 3: Turn Up the Flow

Your creative energy is the purest expression of your soul. To tap into it, we now have to magnify the emotions. Because

Emotion = Energy in motion

So revisit the texts you wrote in Steps 1 and 2 and circle the words and phrases that raise emotions in you, both positive and negative.

Step 4: Spout It Out

Having put your greatest fears and hopes on paper and identified the emotions attached to them, it’s time to create your own poetic masterpiece. Forget about form and structure; instead, stay connected with your inner self and let the pen dance freely, expressing what you want to share with the world. Keep going and witness how the magic unfolds.

Embrace Your Uniqueness:

Remember, YOU possess a unique way of expressing yourself. Don’t be disheartened by criticism; actually, embrace it! If everyone thinks your work is good, it is probably not pushing the boundaries of greatness.

Now armed with Adam Roa’s 4-step process, you hold the key to unleashing your creative potential. Let go of self-doubt and fear, and allow your emotions to guide you on this artistic journey. Embrace your individuality, for that, is the heart of true creativity. Dare to step into the world of unlimited possibilities, where your life becomes a beautiful poem in motion.
