Selection process of a Moonshot Pirate mentor
Once a potential mentor applies through our website or is recommended to us, we begin a short qualification process. This includes a friendly call to get to know their background, explore shared values, and see which of our programs might be the best fit.
Because our mentors work closely with young people, safeguarding is a top priority. Before joining any program, mentors are required to verify their identity and, in some cases, submit a recent police record as part of our commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for all participants.
At Moonshot Pirates, we care deeply about the safety and well-being of every young person in our programs. That’s why all mentors are expected to follow our Safeguarding & Code of Conduct Policy — a clear guide to ensure respectful, professional, and inspiring interactions.

It has been an amazing experience to be a mentor at the Moonshot Pirates Bootcamp. Thanks to the program and the enthusiastic mentors, students started to question things, to think of solutions, and to act like entrepreneurs.
I am highly impressed by the bravery, resourcefulness, creativity, and dedication of my mentees. It has been a really fun, inspiring, and empowering journey so far and I am more than thankful to be able to participate in the program and to meet such great young women and men. It is more important than ever to create spaces where we all can connect and share our common humanity.
When I was asked, if I’d like to participate as a mentor, it was an instant yes. And it has been proven on all levels. Imagine, you get a notification at 2 o’clock in the morning, that your skills as a mentor are needed – that’s a Moonshot Pirates attitude! As a mentor, I’ve learned as much from the mentees as vice versa.
I enjoyed my experience tremendously! Mentors have lots of experience to share with mentees and mentees have such unique perspectives to share with mentors. It’s a great opportunity to learn from each other. We help open each other’s minds to different ways of seeing ourselves and the world!
Intergenerational guidance is key to learning in all directions and dimensions. In giving life skill guidance, my mentees navigated being locked down while clarifying their goals, improving communication with their families, and setting personal values. These months were informative, fun, and inspiring for my mentees and me.
