Inside Blue Earth Summit 2025: Youth Inclusion, Key Highlights, and Takeaways

Author: Yukti at Moonshot Pirates

It is our duty as human beings to preserve Mother Earth and the beings that live on it , too. Whether the initiative is 30 by 30 (conservation of 30% of land and sea by 2030), a reduction in the global carbon footprint, or rebuilding the precious ozone layer, our mission is simple. Despite an idea, aim, or design, the backbone must be sustainable.

So, what is sustainability?

Is it perhaps being more mindful of the processes we use to derive food? Is it reducing single-plastic usage and converting to biodegradable, plant-based materials? Or is it simple as making the workplaces fair and ethical for everyone?

The truth is it is an amalgamation of all 3. Sustainability can be what you imagine it to be. Curious to find out more about sustainability? Read on about how the Moonshot Pirates Team in London, led by the talented Alessandro Barberi, took on the prestigious Blue Earth Summit 2025!

Blue Earth Summit****2025

The Blue Earth Summit is a global gathering of investors, startup CEOs, creators, the youth and anyone who believes in making the future more sustainable. We are glad to say that Moonshot Pirates is a proud partner of this amazing organisation and cause.

This year, it took place on the 15th of October to the 17th of October at the Woolwich Works Centre.

The 3 days were split into talks with sustainability leaders such as the infamous Deborah Meaden , to 30 people workshops with members such as 1% for the Planet or former ALLSAINTS director Stuart Trevor, who strongly believes in the second-hand clothing market as a way to reduce fast-fashion and consumerism. There were special conversations with the Oceans team that worked closely with Sir David Attenborough to the current Sustainability Officer of Google Kate Brandt who emphasized on the emerging artificial intelligence and neural networks that are impacting sustainability.

Moreover, startups such as KVATT and Scuba were pitching their ideas to receive funding from fellow investors and don’t forget the delicious array of vegan food that was provided! From pesto on sourdough bread with tomato soup to delicious freshly-ground coffee and almond croissants, the options were endless.

So, whether you enjoy 1:1 meetings or simply like to listen to conversations, if you want to learn about transitioning to a greener future, the Blue Earth Summit is for you!

Youth and Sustainability

In this era, the youth are a significant group of people that have the power to accelerate this change. It does not matter where you come from. If you want to create, you can create, and change is inevitable.

This is exactly why; Moonshot Pirates is pivotal to this cause. There is no better event to advocate for the voices of youth who will be tomorrow’s future. So let us hear from the fellow Pirates who embarked on this jolly adventure!

Summit Highlights: Pirates Edition

“The Wildcoast panel on coastal rewilding was my favourite because they give insights into essential coastal habitats including salt marshes and mangrove which act as “blue carbon sinks” that collate and store large amounts of atmospheric carbon! Another highlight was getting to network with fellow sustainability investors and introduce Moonshot Pirates as an accelerator for young changemakers to change the world.”

  • Alessandro Barberi- Young Innovator and fellow Moonshot Pirate.

“I particularly enjoyed going to the stalls and interacting with startup investors. The most notable inventions to me were from KVATT who have developed fully biodegradable materials to replace plastic and cardboard used in delivery packages and SCUBA who use geolocation to detect plastic in oceans around the world.

– Yukti Pathak- Microbiologist and fellow Moonshot Pirate.

So, you have heard it from a few of your fellow Pirates. We have embraced this sustainable adventure with open arms!

Key takeaways from the event

• Sustainability is so much more than reducing plastic.

• There is no set rule to create or accelerate ways to be more sustainable.

• The youth serve as a pivotal voice for sustainability.

• Moonshot Pirates x Blue Earth Summit is a great way to explore ways to implement sustainability in our daily lives.

Until the next adventure Pirates…
